Internship Programme
"The 20 days internship programme is a meaningful and useful experience for me... I worked in Big Bear Music Company, and it is the first time that I worked in a British company so that everything is new and interests me. It is a small company where everyone is friendly and obliging. However, the experience is totally different from the companies in China. When I first started my internship, I was so confused. The CEOs are so busy so that they did not give any work to me immediately. In China, the best way to solve this problem is to ask your boss if there is any work for you to show that you are encouraged in this work. But the company gave me a lesson that if there is no work for you, just wait. The reason is that everyone has their own job, sometimes, asking for work is grabbing other’s work. Another reason is that, sometimes your boss knows you better than yourself, if you ask for work, sometimes, the work is beyond your capabilities and bring troubles to your staffs. Another difference is that in China, the later you leave means you work harder than others. But in Britain, the situation is totally different. Everyone would get off work on time. If you tried to stay in the office after the closing time, it is not a presentation that you are working hard but bothering others. “Through this 20-week mentoring scheme, I realised that networking with different people is important, this is for me to find a part-time job during the summer this year. New Creation taught me that browsing on social media and looking at the ‘workplace’ trend is important, rather than just googling everything... teaching staff is useful when it comes to job searching skills and provision of information about CV writing. For example, mentors were able to introduce different roles in the workplace.
